The short version

Your Markdown files never leave your device. MDViewer reads and renders them locally — no account, no cloud uploads. The app sends anonymous usage and performance statistics so we can see what works and what is slow; they never include file names, paths or contents. This website counts visits with our own anonymous, cookie-free statistics and also uses third-party analytics, which you can turn off at any time.

The MDViewer app

Your files

MDViewer opens only the files you choose. They are read from disk, rendered in memory on your device and never uploaded, copied or cached on any server. The Quick Look extension works the same way and keeps nothing after the preview closes.

Anonymous usage and performance statistics

The app uses the open-source TelemetryDeck SDK to send anonymous signals to a server we operate. They help us find bugs, see which features matter and measure how fast documents open. Signals include:

  • App version, macOS version and basic device information (such as the Mac model, language and region settings)
  • Which features and settings are used
  • File-open and rendering timing, the file type, a size range and word count
  • Update checks and steps in the Pro upgrade and purchase flow

Never collected: file names, file paths, document text, your name, email address or contacts. A file is only ever represented by a short one-way hash of its path, which cannot be turned back into the path. The installation is identified by a random ID that is hashed on your device before it is sent, so signals cannot be linked to you personally.

Updates

The version downloaded from this website checks for updates by fetching an update feed; the request includes only the app version and operating system. The Mac App Store version is updated by the App Store.

Settings stored on your device

Preferences such as theme, fonts, window layout and the recent files list stay on your device and are never transmitted.

Purchases

MDViewer Pro bought on this website is sold through Paddle, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle processes your payment details under its own privacy policy — we never see your card number. We receive your email address, country and order details so we can issue, verify and restore your license. Purchases in the App Store are handled by Apple.

This website

Everything above describes the app. This section covers getmd.ma.

Our own statistics

We count page views, traffic sources and clicks on buttons such as Download with our own lightweight script, much like Plausible. The statistics are fully anonymous and set no cookies:

  • A random ID is kept in your browser’s local storage so we can see which pages lead to a download or a purchase
  • We record the page address, referrer, browser, screen size, language and time zone — never your name, email or anything you type
  • The data goes to a server we operate, is never sold or shared with anyone, and is kept only as long as we need it to analyse trends

Third-party analytics

To understand in more detail how pages are used, we also use:

  • PostHog (EU hosting) — page views, clicks and session recordings of how pages are used
  • Yandex Metrica — page views, clicks and session replays (Webvisor)
  • Google Analytics 4 — page views and traffic sources

These services set cookies. We don’t sell data and don’t use it for advertising.

Essential cookies

Checkout pages load Paddle, which sets the cookies it needs to process a payment securely. We also remember your privacy choice in your browser’s local storage.

Your choice

Third-party analytics is on by default. To turn it off, open “Settings” in the cookie notice and choose “Turn off third-party analytics”, or open Privacy settings (linked in every page footer). Your choice is saved in your browser. Our own anonymous statistics keep running, as they use no cookies and can’t identify you.

Emails you give us

If you ask us to email you the download link, we use your address only to send that message. If you join the Windows waitlist, we keep your address to tell you when MDViewer for Windows is released and to send occasional product news; every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted — for example your waitlist entry, support emails or order records (except what we must keep by law). App statistics carry no name, email or file data, so we can’t pick out yours, but we will delete anything we can match to your request. Write to support@crocopliers.com.

Children’s privacy

MDViewer is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we’ll post the update here with a new date.
